Day 1Arrive Chennai – Transfer to Mahabalipuram (55 Km./1 & ½ Hrs.)

Assist on arrival and transfer to hotel in Mahabalipuram. After noon visit Cheenai and Kanchipuram : visit Chennai City, The gracious capital city of Tamil Nadu is the fourth largest metropolis in India, visit Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple : there is yet another 8th century Pallava temple. The temple ‘Gopuram'(tower) is characteristic of Dravidian style architecture. Fort ST. George : (Closed on Friday’s) Fort St. George occupies a place of pride and prominence in Chennai. It was built in 1640 AD, by the British East India Company Later visit Kanchipuram, the Golden City of a thousand temples, and one of the seven sacred cities of India. During the 6th and 7th centuries, the Pallavas built some of the best temples in the city. The main attractions of the city are the Vaikuntha Perumal Temple, an important Vishnu temple built by the Pallava King Nandivarman Pallavamalla, in the 7th century AD.. Kailasanatha Temple, built by Rajasimha and his son Mahendra the 3rd, in the 8th centuryAD. Ekambareswarar Temple, another ancient temple, renovated by the Pallavas, the Cholas, and the Vijayanagar kings. Day 2Mahabalipuram (55 Kms./ 2 Hrs.)

Morning: visit Mahabalipuram, Mahabalipuram, famous for its shore temples, is a welcoming old port city. From the 8th to the 11th century, the Pallava dynasty conducted a thriving maritime trade here with the Far East. The magnificent Shore Temple, although ravaged by the elements and the pounding ocean waves, still reflects the glorious past of these intrepid merchants. Shore temple “This is one of the oldest temples in south India and belongs to the latter half of the 7th century AD”, Arjuna’s Penance “The world’s largest bas relief, Arjuna’s Penance also known as the Descent of the Ganga, 27 m long and 9 m high, holds pride of place at Mamallapuram”, Five Rathas “The Rathas (temple chariots) are named after the Pandavas, the five heroes of the epic Mahabharata”, Tiger Cave “It was built as an open-air theatre, where cultural programmes were held during Pallava period”, Cave Temple “The rock-cut cave tradition, represented by more than 13 caves, was first initiated here by Mahendravarma.

Day 3Mahabalipuram – Thiruannamalai (195 Kms./ 6 Hrs.)

Breakfast at Hotel. Transfer to Thiruannamalai. Check in at hotel. iruvannamalai is a Hindu pilgrimage town in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu. At the foot of sacred Arunachala Hill is the vast, ancient Arulmigu Arunachaleswarar Temple, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, with intricately carved gopurams (towers). To the west, the huge Sathanur Dam was constructed in 1958 on the Thenpennai River. Nearby there are gardens, plus a crocodile farm and a small zoo.

Day 4In Thiruannamalai (195 Kms./ 6 Hrs.)

On sacred mountain Arunachala – Thiruannamalai
An early jump from the feathers! We get a taste of the morning atmosphere at Arunachala. For many believers here in Tamil Nadu he is the mountain-ascended manifestation of the god Shiva. After the breakfast curry, we look around the ashram where Guru Ramana Maharshi lived for over 50 years until his death in 1950. We have already seen the white temple towers of the Arunachaleshvara temple from afar. In the afternoon we join the pilgrims who crowd between temple towers, courtyards and ponds. Overnight in Swamimalai.

Day 5Thiruannamalai – Chidambaram - Tanjore (210 Km./ 4 Hrs.)

Breakfast at Hotel.
Leave Thiruannamalai for Chidambaram. Arrive check in at hotel.
Afternoon visit Chidamabaram and Darasuram Temple.
Chidambaram, also called as Thillai, which has the famous Nataraja temple with the root of the sanctum-sanctorum covered with golden plates is located in the centre of the town covering an area of 40 acres. In this temple, postures from the Bharatnatayam form of dance are depicted in sculpture. Natraja is Lord Shiva as a cosmic dancer. Darasuram, Airavatesvara Temple – The Heavenly Abode Where Sight And Sound Leave You Enchanted The biggest highlight of the Darasuram temple is one of the set of steps next to the first structure. These steps when tapped make amazing musical sound. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is a World Heritage Monument and was constructed by Raja raja II in the 12th century. Reflecting the rich heritage of art and architecture of Tamil Nadu, the temple is located at a distance of 3 km from Kumbakonam town.

Day 6Tanjore –Trichy – Madurai (190 Km./ 5 Hrs.)

After breakfast
visiting Tanjore City, Visit the famous UNESCO World Heritage site of the Brihadeshvara Temple or Bull Temple – home to India’s largest lingam; enjoy the natural splendor that surrounds the Panchanatheesvarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Palace – The Palace of Tanjore also makes for an important tourist destination. It is characterised by its vast corridors, large halls, its shady courtyards and observation towers. It started being built by the Nayaks in the mid-16th century but was completed by the Marathas. Later continue drive to Madurai enroute visiting Srirangam, Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple (it has the tallest temple tower in Asia) this superb temple complex is surrounded by seven concentric walls with 21 Gopurams. Rock Fort, which is situated in the center of the city on top of an 83 m high rock, housing the famous Vinayakar Temple.

Day 7Madurai – Periyar by surface (160 Km./ 04 Hrs. Approx.)

Breakfast at Hotel. Later visit Madurai City, Visit the thousand pillared Madurai Meenakshi Temple, A superb example of Dravidian architecture and sculpture, the temple has two sanctora, one dedicated to Shiva as Sundareswarar and the other to his consort Meenakshi. This is one of the largest temple complexes in the country; Thirumalai Nayak Palace; the palace is a rare example of the Indo-Saracenic style (fusion of original Indian architectural concepts with those of Muslim architecture or plainly speaking pillars and beams merged with arches and domes).Leave Madurai by surface to Periyar, arrive & check in at hotel

Afternoon: visit Periyar: Periyar and its cool, misty Cardamom Hills – a magnificently scenic region 4000 feet and higher, with forests and valleys, roaring streams and pristine jungles. Arrive at Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, one of India’s first Project Tiger Reserves and an excellent place to view elephants and many other animals. Boat ride on Lake Periyar ,where animals come to drink. Sail within close range of elephant groups, feeding and bathing. Scout for statuesque sambar deer and giant wild oxen, or guar, browsing in the marshes. Search the green wooded shores for wild boars, monkeys, and an array of birdlife. If you are lucky, you will get a rare sighting of tiger.

Day 8Periyar - Munnar by surface (105 Km./ 2 Hrs.)

Leave for Munnar by surface, arrive & check – in at Hotel.

Full day visit to Tea Garden of Munnar, Sprawling tea plantations, picture-book towns, winding lanes and holiday facilities make this a popular resort town. Among the exotic flora found in the forests and grasslands here is the Neelakurinji.

Day 9Munnar – Alleppy (165 Kms. / 4.5 Hr. Approx)

Morning breakfast at hotel and drive from Munnar to Alleppy. On arrival board the House boat for the overnight cruise on the Backwater of Kerala.

Day 11In Cochin

Morning after breakfast proceed for a Heritage walk of Old Cochin Area, Cochin is a trading port which has been dominated over the years by the Portuguese, Dutch and British. From the hotel, you can take a walk through the old town of Fort Cochin, visit the old spice market & Jew in the middle of Jew Town, a bustling port area and centre of the Kochi spice trade. Look out for the Jewish names on some of the buildings. Or stroll the beach, which is lined with picturesque Chinese fishing nets. Visits Dutch Palace, old Portuguese and Dutch houses. St. Francis Church, built in 1502 by the Portuguese is one of the oldest European church in India, Jewish Synagogue, was built in 1568. Giant scrolls of the Old Testament can be found here.
